You're Elsewhere Even When You're Here
A triptych of out-of-focus photos I took in the back of a taxi on a rainy day. The windows got foggy due to the air-conditioner. It looks like a dreary winter or spring day, but I'm pretty sure it was summer rain.
The title of this piece comes from a highly-charged conversaton I had with my girlfriend in college. She lamented the fact that I as an absentee boyfriend a lot of the time. To paraphrase her, "It's like your mind is somewhere else even when you're here next to me."
I was distant for whatever reason: hanging out with my large group of friends too much; starting college; trying to start my career as a young writer. But those are just excuses. Sorry ones at that. I should've been more present. I should've been there for her.
